Pre-eclampsia is a condition that affects pregnant women. It only affects 5-6% of pregnant women. The condition can be life-threatening to the mother and the fetus. This is one of the conditions that doctors screen for on prenatal visits, one of the reasons why checkups are so important. Even if the mother is not having symptoms, she can still have the condition. In most cases, pre-eclampsia is mild and many pregnant women who get it go on to have healthy babies.
